How Traits Work
What the trait line on a Character card is, how card effects read it, and why it matters once you start building a deck.

Every Character card in the Naruto Card Game has a trait line. It sits just under the character's name and holds a set of tags. On Naruto Uzumaki it reads Wind / Jinchuriki / Hidden Leaf Village / Team 7.
Traits do nothing on their own. They matter because other cards read them. An effect can require a trait, or count how many are in play, so the tags on a card decide which effects it works with.

How to read the trait line
The tags on a card tend to cover four things. Take Naruto Uzumaki again:
- Wind is the chakra nature. Some cards show a fighting style here instead, like Taijutsu.
- Jinchuriki is a classification. It sorts characters by what they are, in this case a tailed-beast host.
- Hidden Leaf Village is the village the character serves.
- Team 7 is the squad inside that village.
Not every card carries all four. Gamabunta has Toad and Mount Myoboku where a person would have a village and a team. The line is whatever tags fit that character.
How card effects use traits
Three cards in the demo decks show traits being used. All three are in the Sasuke Blue deck.
Itachi Uchiha
On summon, Itachi reveals the top card of your deck. If that card has the {Uchiha Clan} type, a Leader or Character you choose cannot attack during your opponent's next turn. The payoff only fires if the revealed card carries the trait.
Sasuke Uchiha (EX)
To summon this EX card you place one of your Characters and one of your {The Taka} type Characters in the trash. The Taka tag is part of the cost, so the deck wants Taka bodies on the field to spend.
Jugo
When Jugo attacks, he reveals the top card of your deck. If it is a "The Taka" type card other than an EX Character, or "Sasuke Uchiha" by name, he summons it for free.
Why traits matter for your deck
Traits are how cards in a deck connect to each other. The Taka is the clearest case in the demo decks. Sasuke EX spends a Taka Character as part of its cost, and Jugo digs for Taka cards off the top of the deck, so Karin, Suigetsu and Jugo are worth running partly for the tag they share.
Uchiha Clan works the same way for Itachi. The more Uchiha cards in the deck, the more often his reveal hits.

What's confirmed and what isn't
Everything here comes from the 22 Character cards in the Gen Con demo decks. A few things to keep in mind:
- The full trait list is not out. 22 traits have been seen so far. More cards will bring more.
- Bandai has not published trait categories. The groupings in this guide and the list article are ours, for readability.
- Only two decks have been shown. How traits behave across the wider card pool is still open.
